Tombit’s 5-Port Switch (5PS) was developed to make it easier for guitarists to use multiple guitars in a live setting. The owner of Tombit had been playing in a cover band and worship teams where multiple guitars were needed each set – sometimes to achieve specific tones, sometimes to allow for different tunings. Not wanting to hassle with wireless guitar systems and preferring the simplicity and reliability of using cables but also wanting the advantages of a traditional A/B switch but with support for up to 5 guitars, the 5PS was born! The 5PS is a smart-switch, meaning that it senses what jacks are in use and will automatically switch to the next in-use jack when the footswitch is pressed. While the switch ships with a 9V DC power supply, this switch is really designed for pedalboards and to work with most pedalboard power supplies that support a center pin negative configuration.
Tombit’s 5PS uses high quality mechanical reed relays, so as to ensure no degradation in your guitar’s signal.
In addition to it’s guitar switching capabilities, the 5PS can also be used as an effects switching system within a pedalboard rig (please note, the 5PS only supports mono signal switching.)
The image below shows the tip/sleeve wiring of the Tombit 3rd-Gen Toyota Tacoma mic adapter’s 3.5mm mic cable. The preponderance of aftermarket head units use this convention where the tip of the jack is wired to the Mic + and the sleeve of the jack is wired to the Mic -.
